A Tool for Overcoming Depression

Let’s get Depressed!! Has anyone ever said that to you? I don’t think i’ve ever been asked to make myself depressed. Have you? Well, there is a first time for everything. For most people it’s usually the opposite, they strive for and desire some form of happiness in their lives. Yet they are seemingly pulled by some unseen force like gravity down toward a state depression. SO here we go, ready to get depressed? From this moment forward I want you to only think about yourself and what you currently not getting in life, what you don’t have, what you never got in your past and what you will never get till the day you die (really or imagined). Do this for the next few minutes and notice where you end up. Depressed yet? You should be. You have just experienced the secret to how most people create depression. Their thoughts, self talk and daydreams are focused only on themselves and everything they lack. They tell stories to themselves and others about what they didn’t get as a child, or at school or at their job or in their relationships. They compare themselves to others and only see what they don’t have, thus creating a state of despair. Hence the term Compare and Despair. This is how I create a state a state of depression, too! See my belief is that if you understand how you create a state of being, you can then learn how to NOT create it or actually create the opposite. SO what do you think the antidote is? I’m tempted to leave you with...

Modeling Behavior

This week I made a commitment to wake up at 6am everyday and write for 30 minutes. I wanted to finish at least one chapter of my book which for months I had been saying to people that I’m writing a book when in reality I was scribbling notes and working on concepts and not putting pen to paper (or fingers to key) and flushing these thoughts out. So I thought its time to come back into integrity and be my word. It was a stretch and a challenge for me not only to focus each morning on witting consistently everyday but also in getting up at 6am in the winter. I have a belief that I need at least 7.5 hours of sleep to function. Anything less and I’m toast! Its dark and cold in our room at 6am, unless you are under the super thick down comforter covering our bed. I didn’t fall asleep till midnight last night as my wife was sitting in bed preparing for a super packed four days of workshops and classes. My super loud alarm went off I was jarred out of a deep REM sleep. Quickly snoozed my alarm, felt the cold air on my face and turned to snuggle into my warm wife and heavy down blanket. I knew that I had about 15 seconds before I said “fuck it “and went back to sleep. Luckily my wife has also made a commitment to get up at 6 to do her meditation practice. I whined that it was cold and we went to bed late and that it felt really good...
Return to nature – Reboot your system

Return to nature – Reboot your system

We all get into ruts, negative emotional moods, mental thought “loops” that repeat things that we wouldn’t want anyone else to hear. When we show up in the world meeting people and challenges in these states of being its impossible for the things we touch to not be affected by this negative state. How to you break this pattern? How to you clean the slate so you can be present for what is happening right now? How do YOU shift from being closed down and insecure to stepping into your true nature, your powerful self? There are infinite ways to break this state. For me I throw my running shoes on and go for a run in Central Park around the Reservoir even if Im in total resistance, which I was today because I was stiff and felt like a truck hit me when I woke up! 1 hour later the ideas are flowing, I feel alive and awake, and I was motivated to sit and write this blog, which I seldom feel motivated to do! Return to nature for a walk, run or just to take your shoes off and reconnect to yourself. There was an issue loading your exit LeadBox™. Please check plugin...
